James Madison's Montpelier seeks an experienced professional to lead a multi-disciplinary team of staff and consultants in the research, recovery, and interpretation of Montpelier as the home of James and Dolley Madison. This is a new position, created to direct historical research, archaeological excavations, curatorial work, and visitor research to build a thorough understanding of the historic interiors, grounds, and operation of the Madisons' home. The position reports to the President of the Montpelier Foundation.
This is an exceptional opportunity to take a key role in defining the interpretation of the home of a significant American Founder. Requirements include: extensive relevant work experience (10 years or more); proven success as an effective supervisor and team leader; advanced degree in a related professional field, excellent presentation and communication skills, and a determination to create a premier historic site.

Accountant – Staff Accountant
Seeking individual to manage staff and have direct involvement in the cash management, general ledger, financial statement, and reporting functions and processes. Review and assure accuracy of input from subsidiary journals. Assist with all accounting functions and reports. Ensure accuracy in accordance with GAAP and the Foundation's policies and procedures.
B S in Accounting, Business Administration or related area, CPA preferred, and 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in non-profit accounting. Experience with automated accounting systems. Requires a working knowledge of GAAP, supervisory experience a plus, ability to work with minimal supervision, and must be organized, analytical and detail oriented.

Director of Individual Giving
The Montpelier Foundation seeks a highly motivated development professional to direct all individual giving programs with a focus on increasing annual and leadership gifts. The ideal candidate will be a proven, experienced team player who can implement a wide range of fundraising strategies within a multi-faceted development program. The individual must be eager to develop strong relationships with Montpelier volunteers, donors and other constituents and staff, and be dedicated to its mission.
Bachelor's degree and three or more years of demonstrated success in fundraising required. This position requires attention to details, excellent writing and communication skills, tact, judgment, excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage several projects at one time.

Outreach Education and We the People Virginia State Coordinator

The Center for the Constitution at James Madison’s Montpelier in Orange County, VA is seeking applications for the full-time position of Outreach Education Coordinator and We the People Virginia State Coordinator. The Center for the Constitution provides instruction in constitutional studies for civic educators and other stewards of the Constitution. This position will serve as the Virginia state coordinator for We the People: the Citizen and the Constitution, a national civic education program for students and educators, and will conduct other outreach and educational programs for the Center. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, directing and teaching professional development seminars including budgeting, staffing, and marketing, organizing student competitions, attending conferences, developing seminars related to the mission of the Center for the Constitution and assisting with other Center events as needed.
Professional experience in teaching or education administration desirable, but not required. A Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s or other advanced degree preferred. Frequent travel within Virginia and periodic travel to other parts of the country are required. This position also requires some evening and weekend work. Registrar
Registrar needed for 2,600-acre newly restored historic presidential home. Ideal candidate will have knowledge of preservation and conservation standards, and experience working with and caring for historical artifacts. Art handling, shipping, insurance, preparation and installation of exhibits, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Working knowledge of computerized database systems, preferably PastPerfect. Experience with museum registration methods. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, strong oral and written communications skills. Must have a B.A. in museum studies, art history, history or related field with minimum (3) years of previous registration/collections management experience in an historic house/museum setting. Research Assistant — Objects

Over the past few years the Montpelier Foundation has worked to restore the mansion of James and Dolley Madison on their historic plantation in Orange, Virginia. The focus is now on refurnishing the newly restored mansion through intensive research documenting their lives and the possessions they owned. The Research Assistant will work as a member of the Curatorial Department, with emphasis on object research. The position is grant funded for one year, with the possibility of extension dependent on additional grant funding. Full benefits package available. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with an undergraduate degree in history, art history, museum studies, American Studies, or other related field that is able to work independently, brings a background in American history with strong decorative arts research skills and experience doing research in archives, courthouses and other repositories. Applicant must have strong communication and writing skills. Experience with computer databases is preferred.
