The State of the Constitution:
What Americans Know

The Center for the Constitution at James Madison's Montpelier conducted a nationwide telephone survey of people across the United States to gauge Americans' understanding of constitutional principles. Sponsored by the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation, the survey was informed by input from a dozen scholars of the Constitution and constructed by the staff of the Center for the Constitution with assistance from Dr. Quentin Kidd of the Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University.

The telephone survey of a random sample of adults age 18 and older who reside in the United States was conducted between July 20 and July 28, 2010. Live interviewing and sampling was conducted by the Muhlenberg College Institute of Public Opinion.
