revealing the structural foundations for each duplex-home. For the Southeast Duplex-Home, the
16×32’ structure was determined to have a greenstone chimney base (previously identified in 2008)
and a dressed, greenstone continuous foundation on the northern wall and much of the western wall.
It is thought that this foundation acted as a “privacy screen” due to the height of the pier bases
required by the north-south slope as the rear lawn of the mansion transitions to a small elevation/hill.
By contrast, the Southwest Duplex-Home was determined to have discrete pier bases and a brick
chimney base patterned in the Rumsford design of the late-18th century. (Click on image to right to download report).
