Dear Montpelier Community,

At James Madison’s Montpelier, we take great pride in our role as co-stewards of this National Historic Landmark, a memorial preserving the legacy of American liberty.  Liberty, as defined by the founding fathers, means freedom, freedoms fought for, freedoms lost, and freedoms earned. Through the work of the Robert H. Smith Center for the Constitution, our groundbreaking exhibits, and special initiatives in memorialization, we strive to educate and inspire visitors of all ages and backgrounds, restoring humanity as we explore divergent views and experiences, yet fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the contributions of our nation's leaders and “invisible founders.”

As we commemorate National Presidents' Day, we invite you to join us in reflecting on our common cause as Americans endeavoring toward a more perfect union; a worthy vision shaped by revolutionary ideas of freedom, justice, and equality for all. James Madison contributed to the world the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the concept of government by the people. “We the People” is foundational to American identity and polity, expanding in meaning from the revolutionary era of President George Washington through our modern times and the presidency of Joe Biden. Let us draw inspiration from the courage and conviction exhibited by leaders who dare to be the change we can believe in, living up to the values of liberty and justice for all.

We extend our sincerest thanks to our members, partners, neighbors, and generous supporters who continue to journey with us in exploring whole histories illuminating the complexity of President  James Madison and the enslaved community. You can demonstrate your support with new gifts securing Montpelier’s future here. Together, The Montpelier Foundation and the Montpelier Descendants Committee envision a future in pursuit of truth and service to all mankind. Join us for tours, live talks, and our podcast Consider the Constitution. On this Presidents’ Day and throughout the year, explore James Madison’s home, the South Yard, and more; learn about upcoming events; and follow James Madison’s Montpelier on all social media platforms. Please know that we wish you a meaningful National Presidents' Day and thank you for your continued support.
