Travel Information

NEH provides up to $300 per person to reimburse participants for costs associated with travel to and from the Workshop site. Appropriate documentation is required to receive a reimbursement.

If you will be flying to the Workshop, appropriate documentation consists of a copy of your receipt and itinerary for roundtrip airfare to and from Washington Dulles International Airport. If your airfare costs are less than $300, you will receive a 100% reimbursement for this cost at the close of the Workshop. If your airfare costs are more than $300, you will receive a reimbursement of $300 at the close of the Workshop.

After both Workshops are completed and all participants have been reimbursed for their travel costs up to $300, the Center for the Constitution will reevaluate travel monies. If and only if there is money left in the travel allocation, the Center for the Constitution will distribute the balance to those participants whose travel costs were more than $300. There is no guarantee that these additional reimbursements will be made, or that if they are made, they will cover the participant's full travel costs over $300. These additional reimbursements, if available, will be mailed to qualifying participants by the end of the grant cycle (December 31, 2008).

Flight arrangements and booking to Washington Dulles International Airport should be made by the participant. Shuttle service will be provided from Washington Dulles International Airport to the Workshop site and back to the airport at the Workshop's conclusion, at no additional cost to the participant. A participant may rent a car for their own transportation to the Workshop site at their own expense. Under no circumstance will vehicle rental fees or mileage incurred from a rented vehicle from Washington Dulles International Airport be reimbursed.

If you will be driving to the Workshop, appropriate documentation consists of documentation of Mapquest mileage from your home address to the Workshop site (e.g. a computer printout of detailed mileage from www.mapquest.com). At the close of the Workshop, you will receive a reimbursement equal to $0.405 per mile, up to $300. For example, if your roundtrip mileage is 450 miles, you will receive a reimbursement for $182.25 at the close of the Workshop (450 x $0.405). If your roundtrip mileage is 741 or more miles, you will receive a reimbursement for $300 at the close of the Workshop.

Please note that there is also a Montpelier, Virginia, which is not where James Madison’s Montpelier is located.  When entering destination information for Mapquest driving directions, use Montpelier Station, Virginia, 22957.  For detailed driving directions from points in Virginia and Washington D.C., click here.

All transportation between off-site accommodation locations (see Meals and Accommodations page) and James Madison's Montpelier during the Workshop will be provided at no cost to the participant.
