Mansion (< 1723 A.D.)

Archaeologists have recovered a wide range of late prehistoric pottery and stone tools at the mansion.  Ironically, almost all of these artifacts have been found in soils disturbed by the Madisons during the renovations made to the grounds during the Washington Years.  Clearly, however, these artifacts
