Meet Our Staff
The Montpelier Archaeology Department has eight professional staff, and between 3-10 archaeology interns at any given time. Throughout the year, the archaeology staff works with almost 50 students in our two Historical Archaeology Field Schools and over 100 volunteers in the 14 Archaeology Expeditions that we offer.
With over 85 years of archaeological experience, the Montpelier archaeology staff has worked throughout the world on prehistoric and historic sites, especially plantation archaeology of the American Mid-Atlantic region. Additional experiences are drawn from across the world, with work completed at sites in America, the United Kingdom, Borneo, Spain, Italy, Jamaica and other Caribbean islands.
During the programs, the archaeologists will work one-on-one with volunteers and students to introduce them to archaeology at James Madison’s Montpelier.

"Dr. Reeves and the rest of his staff were wonderful to work with—patient, willing to share knowledge, and helpful to those who were first time 'diggers.'"
