The Technical Reports section for Archaeology contains links to reports and research produced to document the archaeological investigations of James Madison's Montpelier. Many of these reports are written for archaeologists and the specialist reader, particularly those sections labeled as "Site Strata".

  • Excavations.  This section contains technical reports detailing Phase III investigations, including such sites as the Stable Quarter, South Yard, Mansion Cellars, and North West Yard.
  • Preliminary Investigations.  Reports in this section detail Phase I and Phase II investigations and inculdes areas such as the Stable Yard and Stable.
  • Conference Reports.  Montpelier archaeologists frequently present at professional conferences upon the most recent finds and research at James Madison's Montpelier.  This section contains links to the papers and, where possible, the associated presentation (in Microsoft PowerPoint® format).
  • Research Reports.  Research reports and Academic theses related to excavation and research on the property of James Madison's Montpelier.
  • Object Reports:  Research summary of objects recovered from major excavations at the Montpelier Plantation and Farm. Features detailed descriptions of ceramics and other small objects recovered from excavations.
