Constitution Day Celebration
& Taste of Freedom Wine Festival
Bring your family and friends to Montpelier on Saturday, September 20 for a fun day of balloon rides, live music, local food, beer, wine, and fireworks.
Held rain or shine on the historic grounds of James Madison's Montpelier. Picnic blankets and camping chairs are welcome. Festivities will begin at 10:00 am. Last admission at 7:45.
Access to the grounds is $10/car. Taste of Freedom Wine Festival tickets are $20/advance or $25/gate. Advance tickets are now available for online purchase here!
Liberty Ride Horse Parade
10:00 AM – James and Dolley arrive escorted by the Liberty Ride Horse Parade. This 11-mile trail ride is a fundraiser for Orange County Parks & Recreation. Click here to learn how to participate!
Discover James Madison's Montpelier
9:30 AM - 6:00 PM – Enjoy a complimentary tour of James and Dolley's beloved home. Learn more about Madison's greatest legacy in his newly refurbished library where the ideas of the U.S. Constitution first began.
10:30 AM - 6:00 PM - Chat with Montpelier archaeologists to learn how we are discovering the real stories of the Madisons and Montpelier's enslaved community.

10:30 AM - 6:00 PM - The beloved home of James and Dolley was full of visitors at any given time during their retirement years, and Constitution Day is certainly an event they would have liked to celebrate with their neighbors. Look for them when you tour the mansion!
6:10 PM - Welcome remarks from Kat Imhoff, President and CEO of The Montpelier Foundation.
10:00 AM - 6:00 PM - Face-painting, balloon art, magic shows, cooking and tool demonstrations, jugglers, and a dancing dragon. What more could a child want?
11:00 AM - 6:00 PM - Explore Madison's presidential estate like a 19th century visitor! This 10-minute circuit with Art Magner and his majestic Percherons, Prince and Jupiter, starts at the Temple.
3:00 PM - 6:00 PM - Enjoy a view from the top in a tethered hot-air balloon ride!

"We the People" Teachers & Alumni
3:00 PM - 6:00 PM - Teachers and alumni of the nationally acclaimed civics program, "We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution" are welcome to stop by the "We the People" tent for Constitution-themed games, snacks, and to catch up with old friends! Pre-registration is encouraged. Call 540-308-2063 to register.
