Montpelier is located in Orange, Virginia, just two hours from Washington, 1½ hours from Richmond, 45 minutes from Fredericksburg, and 30 minutes from Charlottesville. Click here for directions.
Hours of Operation
Montpelier is open every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas.
- November – March: 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- April – October: 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The Visitor Center and Museum Shop close one-half hour later.
Admission Fees
Admission to Montpelier includes a guided tour of the Madison home, and admission to the 2,650-acre gardens and grounds, seasonal and themed tours, the Gilmore Cabin: A Freedman's Farm, the Visitor Center and William duPont Gallery, Education Center, Museum Shop, Landmark Forest, Madison Family Cemetery, Slave Cemetery, active archaeological digs, and the Annie duPont Formal Garden.
Admission also includes an audioguide which allows visitors to take a self-guided tour of the grounds.
