Plan Your Visit
What to ExpectYou will drive on to the property, follow signs to the Visitor Center, where you will park and buy a ticket. Here you will watch a 10-minute orientation film and browse the Museum Shop, and visit the Grills Gallery and duPont Gallery. Then, take a 1/3-mile walk from the Visitor Center to the Mansion for a 35-minute tour. Spending time at Montpelier involves a fair amount of walking and standing. AmenitiesRestrooms are located in the Montpelier Visitor Center, in the Archaeology Lab, and in the Education Classroom trailers. There are no restrooms in the Mansion. The Courtyard Café and Museum Shop are located in the Visitor Center. Because the grounds, gardens, and archaeological sites are such an important part of the Montpelier experience, we recommend visitors wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes. Benches are available for visitors both inside and outside the mansion, and along the walkways to the gardens, forest, and visitor center.
Allow at least 2–3 hours for the full Montpelier experience.
