Visitors with Limited Mobility

All paths in visitor core areas—the cellars, the first floor of the mansion, archaeology lab, hands-on tent, and cooking demo—are wheelchair accessible. Montpelier has three standard wheelchairs available at no extra charge on a first-come, first-serve basis and three motorized scooters for a fee at the Visitor Center. All second floor exhibits are available in the format of booklets and individual DVD players.

Accessible restrooms, each with a water fountain outside it, are located in the Visitor Center; we recommend using the restrooms before leaving the Visitor Center.

Visitors with limited mobility are advised to build extra time into their schedule.

Deaf and Hearing-Impaired Visitors

The introduction film at the Visitor Center, Constitution presentation in the Mansion, and Dolley Dress film are closed captioned. Printed Audioguide scripts and house tour scripts are also available for the deaf and hearing-impaired.

Blind and Partially Sighted Visitors

Blind and partially sighted visitors can experience their tour with the added touch of objects and more in-depth visual description. Certified service dogs are allowed in the house only when utilized for assisted care.
