Whether you’re a history buff, a curious explorer, or looking for a meaningful weekend outing—Montpelier has something for everyone!\nHighlights of the Day (Included with Admission):  10:00 AM – 3:00 PM | Explore, Learn, Have Fun\n\nCelebrate 250 years of American Independence with two special experiences from VA250.\n\nVA250 Mobile Museum Experience \nVA250 Car Project\n\n\nDontavius Williams will highlight Colonial chocolate-making and its historical ties to American slavery through a cooking demonstration in the reconstructed kitchen in Montpelier’s South Yard. This presentation is made possible by the Forrest E. Mars, Jr. Chocolate History Grant.\nInteract with Montpelier’s Archaeology team and expert tradespeople as they demonstrate the range of trade expertise of the enslaved at Montpelier. This trades festival includes Carpentry, Blacksmithing, and Log Cabin Construction.\nKick off your adventure with a Montpelier Passport—stamp your way through interactive stations tied to the U.S. Constitution and claim a special souvenir at day’s end!\nConnect with our community partners and discover how today’s organizations reflect enduring civic values.\nDive deep into the acclaimed Mere Distinction of Colour exhibition, unpacking the legacy of slavery and the fight for liberty.\nOn Your Mark, Montpelier! A self-guided Family Friendly Audio Tour.\n\n \nStarting at 11:00AM – Barbecue Exchange will have a limited menu for purchase in the Visitor Center cafe.\nGuided House Tours\nTake one of our themed guided tours of the Madison home with our knowledgeable interpretation staff. *Note: Guided Tours will be the only way to enter the house during this event. An additional cost is required for the tour. Schedule and registration details to come. \nMadison Panel\nJoin a panel of James Madison University Scholars for a discussion in the Grand Salon.
