The Montpelier Archaeology Department values and understands the importance of including African American voices and experiences in our research.  This provides a critical perspective in learning about the African American experience here at Montpelier. The Montpelier Archaeology Department offers full scholarships (including housing) to African Americans for its week-long archaeology programs as well as it's annual month-long Field School. 

The Classroom Teacher LEARN Archaeology Training is a program of Archaeology in the Community in partnership with the Archaeology Department at James Madison’s Montpelier. Teachers participate in a week-long archaeological excavation on an actual research site on the Montpelier property, attend daily curriculum training to incorporate archaeology into their classroom, and participate in historic tours and lectures. To offset the cost of this program, we offer full scholarships to cover both the program fees and housing during your time with us. To apply for the scholarship, please click the button below.
