Save the Date: the War of 1812 is Coming!

This year marks the bicentennial of the War of 1812, also known as “Mr. Madison’s War.” Two hundred years ago, this war tested our young nation. President Madison proved the United States could go to war without depriving citizens of their constitutional rights. To commemorate this anniversary, Montpelier will open a brand-new exhibit, “The War of 1812,” on the mansion’s second floor.

“The War of 1812″ will open to the public on June 18, 2012, but our social media friends are invited to a special exhibit preview, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on June 17. Enjoy light refreshments and a book talk and signing with Michael I. Meyerson, J.D., professor at the University of Baltimore Law School and author of Endowed by Our Creator. Then, be one of the first to see the new exhibit!

Admission is $18 for the general public and free to Montpelier members. R.S.V.P. by June 11 by emailing or calling 540.672.2728 x109. So, mark your calendar for June 17 and plan to be at Montpelier for “The War of 1812!”
