Arboristry Two-Day Archaeology Expedition

During the 2025 Expedition season, we will be working at Walnut Hollow, a site near the famed Temple where metal detector surveys located several structures believed to be homes for enslaved families, that date from the 1780s-1830s. This season we will be excavating several home sites of enslaved families as well as the 18th-century blacksmith shop located adjacent to the Temple.

Join us for a special arboristry program in early April when the buds are on the trees for tree ids at Montpelier.

Document the trees that are present to help us better understand the history, use and ecology of the Walnut Hollow Site.

Learn species identification with an an arborist and mycologist.

Learn how to read the forest for clues to decipher and interpret the historic landscape.
