Montpelier’s Equestrian Landscape Expedition
An Equestrian Expedition at James Madison’s Montpelier
Join us for exciting behind-the-scenes tours, lectures, and hands-on experiences about Montpelier’s equestrian past, present, and future as we lead up to the 90th running of the Montpelier Hunt Races on November 1st 2025.
Over the course of the expedition, discover Madison and duPont era equestrian landscapes, buildings, and artifacts as we explore horse-related topics including transportation, sport, status, and expertise. Gain admission to behind the scenes buildings like the duPont era stables and barns. Explore archaeological sites where our team has recovered horse-related artifacts. Help us continue to discover Montpelier’s hidden landscape as we use metal detection to find sites rich with Montpelier’s 18th-19th century horse-related artifacts.
Your experience culminates with admission and parking for the 90th running of the Montpelier Hunt Races on Saturday November 1st.
(Please note that while a general admission race ticket and a general admission parking pass are included in the cost, tickets for additional specific events related to the races may be made available but will be at an additional cost. Please ask us for details).
