About Elizabeth Dowling Taylor
Since 2010, Beth Taylor has been an independent scholar, lecturer, and author , as well as a Fellow at Virginia Humanities in Charlottesville, VA. She served as a Kundrun Fellow, International Center for Jefferson Studies at Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, during the 2019-2020 academic year. She has also served as Director of Interpretation at Monticello, Director of Education at Montpelier, and an instructor for Road Scholar travel study programs. In addition to A Slave in the White House: Paul Jennings and the Madisons, Taylor has also published The Original Black Elite: Daniel Murray and the Story of a Forgotten Era, "Miss Cutts"in The Queen of America: Mary Cutt's Life of Dolley Madison; and has written numerous book reviews, op-ed pieces, and blogs. Her latest book, Outside her Proper Sphere: Margaret Bayard Smith, Washington Insider in the Early Republic, is forthcoming.
