Legacy of the Constitution (1865-1900)
The Civil War would leave its mark on America for years. At Montpelier, these years are characterized by Postbellum sites that would tell the story of the trials and triumphs of the African Americans that had previously been enslaved. The Gilmore Farm, now restored, is one of the places and tells the story of George and Polly Gilmore as they and their children live and survive following the Civil War.
