James Madison Birthday Celebration: Join Montpelier in commemorating the 263rd anniversary of James Madison's birthday. The service will be accompanied by a presentation by the United States Marine Corps and remarks by Michael Signer, lecturer in the Woodrow Wilson Department of Politics at the University of Virginia and Visiting Full Professor at the School of Public and International Affairs at Virginia Tech. Signer is the author of the upcoming book, Becoming Madison: The Making of an American Statesman (PublicAffairs 2015). Following the ceremony, Mr. Madison will accept birthday wishes at the mansion. Begins at 1:30 p.m. in the Madison Family Cemetery.

How Best Do We Govern Ourselves? The Constitution Tour
A unique look at the home of James Madison from the perspective of his greatest legacy. Join a Montpelier Interpreter who will utilize the spaces and furnishings of the mansion to reveal the story of how Madison took the age-old idea of self-government and made it a reality. This is not a tour about art and artifacts but is a quest in search of the essential principles of the Constitution. $5 with purchase of mansion tour. Begins at 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM at the Visitor Center.
