Join us for an exciting week of behind-the-scenes tours, lectures, and hands-on learning about Montpelier’s equestrian past, present, and future as we lead up to the 89th running of the Montpelier Hunt Races on November 2nd 2024.
Over the course of the week we will explore the Madison and the duPont era equestrian landscapes, buildings, and artifacts as we explore horse-related topics from site and artifact conservation, transportation, sport, status, and expertise. Tour behind the scenes buildings like the duPont era stables and barns, visit archaeological sites where archaeologists have recovered horse-related artifacts, try your hand at metal detecting for 18th-19th century horse-related artifacts, and hear tours and lectures from leading experts in the field.
