Archaeology Lab Analysis Expedition
In Montpelier’s 2025 Lab Analysis Program, participants will spend the week learning the basics of artifact conservation and curation through hands-on workshops including artifact condition assessment, documentary photography, artifact cleaning and rust removal, electrolytic reduction, mending and repairing. Participants will experience behind-the-scenes tours of artifact storage facilities and other areas not normally accessible to the public, participate in discussions about how conservation decisions are made, and enjoy lectures from leaders in the museum field.
This year’s lab expedition will focus on the process of creating a new lab space! Participants will help Liz out in putting together the study collection, organizing the lab for its opening in the spring, and going through our collection to inventory items. You will get to handle a wide array of artifacts from over 40 years of excavations at the property.
