Opening Community Archaeology Lab at Montpelier (CALM)
The Montpelier Archaeology Department is moving to the old Montpelier Supply Company Store (Esso building on Route 20) and will host its opening on May 9th at noon. On this date, we are will showcase our work on developing exhibits, artifact cases, and offer tours of the building. We look forward to welcoming the local Orange community back to this space! A big part of this event will be honoring the local firefighters (County of Orange Fire & EMS and Orange Volunteer Fire Company) as well as everyone involved in the recovery efforts.
On May 9th we are excited to showcase our new home at the old Montpelier Supply Company Store. We have spent the last several months working with local contractors to restore the woodwork and old store features back to their original condition and hope this will bring back memories of bygone years for many from the local community. We will also host this as a virtual event for those who cannot travel to the area. Click here to register for the virtual May 9th opening.
As part of this opening, we will be working with the Montpelier Descendants Committee’s Oral History Collaboration Team to conduct interviews with community members who have memories of the old store when it was in operation during the duPont ownership. On May 9th, we will be collecting oral histories at the old duPont Store. We want to invite the Orange community to share their memories, photographs, and documents to better understand how the old Montpelier store was used.
If you have memories to share, please fill out the following form: Oral History Sign-Up Survey
