Whether you’re a kid, or kid at heart, visit Montpelier on April 5th for We, The Kids Day! Take advantage of this day during Spring Break and participate in activities specially created for children and families.

Scheduled Activities

Open House – 9:30am – 4pm; A self guided experience through the Madison home allows families to move through the house at their own pace. Strollers, food, and drink are not permitted in the house.

Podcasting for kids– (10:30-11:30; 1:00-2:00pm)What is important to you? Podcasting is a great way to speak about the things that you are interested in and think others should care about too. Learn about how to start a podcast and give it a try.

Drop-in Activities

Catalog Artifacts – If you think you have what it takes to be a curatorial mystery solver, you can put your skills to the test! Try your hand at cataloging special artifacts, or play a game of “I-Spy” and see if you can uncover some of the artifacts on display with Montpelier’s Curatorial and Collections staff.

Mr. Madison Will be at Home and Receiving Guests – Visitors have an opportunity to engage with James Madison in all his genius and complexity. Mr. Madison will discuss a range of topics, from his life at Montpelier to the writing of the US Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Archaeology– Lab will be open to the public from 10-3. There will be a lab activity available at specific times throughout the day. Walking tour of the cemetery spaces focusing on archaeology in the community, legacy, memory, and memorialization.

Woods walks with Montpelier’s Horticulturist and the Virginia Master Naturalists and Gardeners- These walks will focus on Invasive species and how volunteers can help. Planting activity.
