The 190th Anniversary of the death of President James Madison
On the 190th anniversary of President James Madison’s death, the Orange County Historical Society will offer a presentation by Tom Chapman: Who Was Buried in James Madison’s Grave? – Uncovering the History of the Madison Family Cemetery at Montpelier.
Join us outdoors at the Madison Family cemetery at James Madison’s Montpelier estate, under the big shade tree and bring your lawn chair, a drink, and a snack. Parking will be at the Montpelier David M. Rubenstein Visitors Center. The meeting will begin promptly at 3pm, so arrive a few minutes early to make it to the cemetery.
James Madison of Montpelier is one of Orange County’s most famous sons: President of the United States, Father of the US Constitution, statesman, and one of the founders of the University of Virginia to name a few.
Tom Chapman will present a program from his perspective as a former archaeologist and historian at James Madison’s Montpelier presidential homesite.
